Marsha Hammel was born in Florida, and after an artistic education was inspired to take up art as a career. She began in the 1970s to work almost exclusively in pastel or oil on paper and she filled hundreds of sketch books with great spontaneity. This early training enhanced her skill as a draftsman and the sense of urgency and spontaneity she cultivated is still a dominant characteristic of the work she creates today.Specialising in sultry and atmospheric paintings with a figurative and musical theme, she has received several prestigious awards and commissions and has held successful solo exhibitions in New York, Florida, North Carolina and London.
